Tyazhpromexport has launched the largest oxygen station of a metallurgical plant in Myanmar.

Tyazhpromexport of Rostec Corporation has launched an oxygen station at an iron smelter in Myanmar. The commissioning of the facility was the first stage of a large-scale program to restore the metallurgical enterprise.

The ceremony dedicated to the commissioning of the oxygen station was attended by Prime Minister of Shan State Aung Aung, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Twing Aung and Deputy Director General of Tyazhpromexport Sergey Kopylov.

"During the period of high demand for cast iron and steel in the country, the steel mill will become one of the main suppliers, as it will be able to meet the country's demand for metal. An enormous amount of energy is needed for the efficient operation of the oxygen station — two 8.9 megawatt engines are installed in it. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the engineers from the Russian Federation and Myanmar who collaborated in the implementation of this project. The Pang Pet Steel plant will not only be able to meet the local steel needs of Shan State, but will also become an important enterprise for the development of the industrial sector," said Shan State Prime Minister Aung Aung.

"The commissioning of the oxygen station at the Pang Pet plant is an important milestone for the country's metallurgical industry and for the development of cooperation between Russia and Myanmar. The plant's air separation unit will be able to produce up to 40,000 m3 of oxygen per hour, which will be continuously supplied for melting in the Romelt furnace. When this large plant is operating at full capacity, it will be able to produce about 200,000 tons of iron per year, which will significantly reduce imports and foreign exchange costs," said Twing Aung, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The restoration of the iron smelter in Myanmar began in February 2025. The project is based on the domestic Romelt technology, which makes it possible to process low-quality ores. The solution ensures efficient use of resources and reduces the environmental burden, which is especially important for countries with growing industries.

"Tyazhpromexport, a member of Rostec State Corporation, has many years of experience in implementing major international projects in metallurgy. In the face of sanctions pressure and the refusal of the German manufacturer to cooperate, we launched the largest oxygen station in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on time and in compliance with high quality standards. Russian technologies were used in the implementation of the project. The new facility will ensure the stable operation of the enterprise," said Sergey Kopylov, Deputy General Director of Tyazhpromexport.

The project is being implemented in stages. After the oxygen station is put into operation, the company continues to provide technological support for the restoration of the iron smelter. At the moment, the company's specialists are preparing a technical report on the condition of the smelting units of the plant and are developing technological melting maps in the Romelt furnace.
