"Tyazhpromexport" has started rebuilding a metallurgical plant in Myanmar

The Foreign Economic Association Tyazhpromexport of Rostec State Corporation has signed a contract with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for the restoration of an oxygen station at the metallurgical plant in Pang Pet. Putting the station into operation will ensure that the enterprise is put into operation in the future. A corresponding plan to resume the construction of the plant is being worked out with the Myanmar side.
The plant should produce up to 200,000 tons of pig iron per year. At the same time, the Russian Romelt technology will be used, which allows efficient processing of ores with a low iron content. The raw material will be poor iron ore from a local deposit. To date, the readiness of the plant is estimated by Russian specialists at about 60%. The enterprise was supposed to be put into operation a few years ago, but its construction was suspended due to lack of financing from the customer. Now it is necessary to restore the technical readiness of the complex.
"The contract between Tyazhpromexport and Heavy Industrial Enterprise No. 1 of the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar for the restoration of the oxygen station is an important practical step in the implementation of the project to resume the construction of the iron smelter. The station will supply the complex, operating using the innovative Russian Romelt technology, with oxygen in order to increase the combustion temperature of coal for smelting cast iron. This is the largest Russian-Myanmar trade and economic cooperation project. If the necessary amount of financing is available, the construction of the plant can be completed in one and a half to two years," said Sergey Kopylov, Deputy General Director for Legal Support and International Activities at Tyazhpromexport..
The signing took place following the work of the Russian delegation in Myanmar, which took part in the meeting of the Fifth Intergovernmental Russian-Myanmar Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation on February 23. The event was held in the capital Naypyidaw under the chairmanship of Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and Kang Zo, Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Affairs of Myanmar.
The Russian delegation included representatives of federal authorities and regions, business, the banking sector, and development institutions. Tyazhpromexport specialists, in particular, discussed with their Myanmar colleagues a phased plan to resume construction of the metallurgical complex in Pang Pet. The restoration of the plant will be carried out by both the Russian and Myanmar sides.
