"Tyazhpromexport" will help to launch a metallurgical plant in Nigeria

A memorandum on Rostec's participation in the project was signed in Moscow
The Foreign Economic Association Tyazhpromexport of Rostec State Corporation, the Novostal-M company, the Proforce Manufacturing Limited consortium and the Ministry of Metallurgy Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed a memorandum in Moscow on participation in the restoration of the Ajaokuta Steel Mill. The project will help to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of metallurgy.
The plant in Ajaokuta was founded in 1979 with the assistance of the USSR. By the beginning of the 90s, the enterprise had been built by 98%, including 3 rolling mills and a thermal power plant. However, the collapse of the USSR prevented the completion of the work. Currently, only a few small workshops are operating at the plant, and most of the production facilities have not been put into operation.
Nigeria tried to complete the Ajaokuta plant with the involvement of third-party companies, but without success. The country's authorities are interested in launching a metallurgical enterprise in order to reduce steel imports and meet domestic demand at the expense of local products.
"We are glad that our partners appreciated the competence of the Russian metallurgical industry and entrusted us with the implementation of such a serious project. We are confident that the agreement will help the Nigerian metallurgical industry reach a new level and will help strengthen friendly relations between the two countries," commented Sergey Egorov, General Director of VO Tyazhpromexport JSC.
